Silver Linings Playbook

I finished the first 20% of Silver Linings Playbook. I'm finding it to be a fast read. Maybe if the Connecticut shootings hadn't just happened, I would be reading it differently, but so far, I'm a little afraid of the main character, and I keep wondering if he and Nikki are really having "away time" or if something bad happened to Nikki. Hopefully she just moved on. Where do others think Nikki has gone?

Silver Linings Playbook

So, here we start on a new book!  I have not started it yet, but I have downloaded it.  Let's hope that even though this one has a movie out about it, we have a better outcome than with Cloud Atlas (I'm still disappointed!!!).

Happy Reading and Merry Christmas, Rutabagas!

Cloud Atlas through Hell

Hello, Rutabagas!
I am 90 percent through Cloud Atlas, and I give up. I thought it would be good because 1) Amazon said, "if you liked 1Q84 by Murakami, you will love Cloud Atlas, and 2) it's a movie now, right?

I guess reading this book is like mapping clouds, but that makes it impossible. Maybe I will finish it someday, but for now, I have to quit because I'm not getting anything good out of reading it.

How's it going for others? Any votes to jump ship and start a different story?

Well it took me a while, but I've finally compiled a list of books that I would like to read. Let's hear your ideas, too...

  • Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
  • The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
  • American Gods by Neil Gaiman
  • The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani
  • A Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami
  • The Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Potzsch
  • How to Read and Why by Harold Bloom

Snow White and the Huntsman

Should we all download the sample to Snow White and the Huntsman then talk about whether or not to read the whole book? Traci, if you've already read it just say so, we can read something else. :-)

The book club has officially launched. Our first book is 50 Shades of Grey.

I have read the first four chapters. The main character's voice seems to waiver between naive (poor writing) and intense (better writer), and this seems to be intentional. I was hooked at the hardware store scene in chapter 2 when Grey selected his second item to purchase..."oh," I thought.
