Hello, Rutabagas! The last few weeks have been pretty wavy for me. As you know, I lost my soul-dog, Luna. Our company sold. Lyn departed. Karen is leaving. The gigantic proposal with so many new responses occurred. And of course, the new puppy, Hurricane Daisy, hit my home with far greater impact than I initially inferred from her size and sweet eyes. Guess it’s a good think I’m a Rutabaga.
Because of all of this (and being about 500 pages of reading behind in my PhD-thing), I had a rule set for myself that I could not start The Wild Sheep Chase until this weekend. However, at about midnight last night, I allowed myself to download the sample (to control my reading) and started the book.
I’m not sure how your favorite authors impact you, but my favorites, including Austen, Hesse, Vonnegut, Hemmingway, Morrison, and even Tom Robbins, have a way of making me feel like I’ve fallen into a featherbed or that I’m floating on my back in a slow river on a summer day with only blue sky and sunshine surrounding me. Now it’s not necessarily about the content – this author, in his other books, has managed to disgust and irritate me at times, but there is something about his voice and his style that make the world right for me. I can’t wait to read more, even though I also already dread the day when I will have finished all of his books.
For now, I’m off to sushi and a deep glass of red, red wine. Happy Reading and Happy Valentine’s Day!
Hello! I'm so behind, and I don't even have the excuse of a Hurricane Daisy to point to! Brandi, it IS a good thing you are a Rutabaga! *We will thrive!* (even if it is slowly)
I've decided that if you will write more posts like the Valentine's Day one, I'll read our blog instead of books, Brandi. Until you decide to do that, I should confess that I'm STILL on page 3 of the book as of the moment I type this, but I do plan to have some solid escape-into-reading time this weekend. And I am excited!!!
By the way, if you want a book to add to your "Do Not Read, Ever" list, here's one: The Painted Bird.
I am sorry I am just seeing this. Yes, I'd love too! Or did you already?
ReplyDeleteHave you found this book in kindle version?
ReplyDeleteI found it. My amazon app didn't have one but when I logged into amazon through the internet I found it.

Here's a great quote from the book:
ReplyDelete"Most people, they're trying to escape from boredom, but I'm trying to get into the thick of boredom."
